Woe is Mo

Orioles1.jpgThe writing is on the wall, writ large, The Sandman is nearing the end.  Without a statistical analysis, is there a Yankee fan out there who hasn't gotten nervous watching Mariano Rivera pitch this season?  It started with those blown saves against Boston the first few games of the season (if you want, you can go back to the blown saves in that ugly ALCS series vs. Boston).

It took Mo 34 pitches to close out that game against Boston last week after the Yankees came back from a 7-2 deficit.  And now last night's fiasco, up 9-6 going into the bottom of the 9th.  Sure, an outside chance to take over the division if Yanks keep winning and Boston keeps losing. So why not, bring Mo in to close it out.  Yikes!

Remember, Mo's going to get called upon to protect a 1 run lead with runners already in scoring position.  Imagine if it  was already runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out.  Mo used to be the guy.  Who'd feel so confident now?

I wonder...

Anyway, with the Mets decisive victory this afternoon, there's still hope out in Queens.  Still, if I were the Mets, I'd be cleaning off my golf clubs...
